How we road tripped in the US

This is one of my mate’s accounts of his road trip, I thought that it would be a laugh to share with you all!
Seeing the real USA requires you to get off the beaten track , leave New York and Hollywood behind and hit the road.
With 4 people in tow the outline plan was to collect a 4by4 from cheap car rental USA at St Louis airport and make the 1,300 mile trip over 4 days to Miami. However it was crucial that it did not feel like a grind and with 5 of us it was easy for temperatures to rise and for those 4 days to feel a whole lot longer.
Before we left we split the journey into 4 day segments of approximately 300 miles and targeted dinner destinations to aim for. With this in place it was time to hit Google Maps and start looking along the journey for towns and historical sites. This proved to be an absolute gold mine of information and opportunity and before long we had a list of vineyards, Indian reservations, caves and pork BBQ’s.
Plotting them along the journey we set out towards our day one destination of Nashville with hopes high and country music radio providing the background to what was to be an outstanding journey.
By splitting the trip into 80 mile jumps we were able to drop in to some outstanding, unusual and sometimes incredible places whilst limiting our time in the car to 1 and a half hour maximum at a time. The drive was spent in excited chatter of what we’d seen and where we going next and without noticing mile after mile disappeared behind us.
Each evening dinner refreshed us before we headed on and found a motel to bed down for the night, of which there are many and all either of high, or at the least interesting, quality.
The 4 days went by too quickly and it felt as if we had literally spent each day seeing sites rather than eating miles and with a basic strategy we were able to have a great trip which we are looking forward to repeating sooner rather than later.
